LDS Apostle Naming Game at General ConferenceProphet and Apostle Recognition Activity for Latter-day Saint Kids
This fun game simultaneously helps LDS kids get to know their church leaders while keeping them entertained and involved in watching General Conference.
Learning the names and faces of the first presidency and 12 apostles is the foundation for an LDS child's future testimony of them. Kids ages 2 and up can learn to recognize church leaders and pay attention to General Conference with the help of this simple, inexpensive activity. Necessary Supplies for General Authority Recognition GameThis General Conference game will help kids of any age learn to identify the prophet and apostles. On the day of conference, each child will need:
Finding Pictures of Newly Sustained General AuthoritiesPictures of the first presidency and apostles are on the centerfold in the most recent conference issue of the Ensign, but what if any of them have passed away since then? In that case, listen closely to the names of the new general authorities sustained in the Saturday morning session and print out their pictures from the church's website. Just search for the new apostle or prophet's name, click on a talk they gave, and their picture will appear at the top of the page. How to Play the Apostle Naming GameEncourage children to sit through as much of general conference as they can by involving them. As each new general authority gets up to speak, have children search through their pictures to find out if they have the matching one. They may need help. Toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy finding matches and gluing the faces on their papers. Elementary schoolers could label each picture with the general authority's name. Tweens could be encouraged to create their own "program" of general conference, including a summary of each general authority's talk beside his picture. Display the Finished General Authority SheetBy the time conference is over, each child's paper should be completed with pictures of all 15 first presidency members and apostles. Hang the finished product somewhere the child will see it often, such as on the fridge or in his or her bedroom. Doing this will help Latter-day Saint kids get familiar with the faces of the general authorities, and don't be surprised if older children even learn some of their names just by seeing them every day. Other LDS General Conference Games for KidsDepending on the ages of the children, parents will need to collect other general conference activities to keep their youngsters busy. But they will find that even toddlers who appear absorbed in their toys will probably look up when a new voice begins speaking to see if they have the match. An important part of Latter-day Saint kids is learning to love the prophet and apostles, and a good first step toward that love and respect involves recognizing and becoming familiar with each of them. With minimal prep time required, this general conference game for children does that while also keeping them occupied and quiet during sessions of conference.
